Visitors!
My brother and Susan (his girlfriend) visited me this week! It was much fun. They spent the days I worked hanging out on the beach swimming, reading, playing scrabble and getting painfully sunburned. The days I was off we didn't really do all that much. The first day we tried to find a futon for them to sleep on, but failed. Even the futon store was out of matresses! Needless, to say they sleep on the floor like me for the rest of the trip. We also got some screen stapled to my window siles. No more cats jumping into my room in the middle of the night!
The second day I took off we attempted to fix the clogged up sink in the kitchen. It was um.... disgusting to say the least. I dunno what was down there but it was decaying and smelly. That night we went to V for Vendetta, which I thought was really good. I recommend this film! My brother wasn't terribly impressed by it because he'd read the comic. But, as I am the big comic nerd in the group and I haven't read it, I doubt any of you will be bothered by that. The film's basically about a crazy (but cool crazy) guy trying to topple a totalitarian government in a distopian future where there is not privacy. It was much fun! We saw this film in the outdoor mall where Britney Spears supposedly shops (now isn't that something to recommend it!). The mall had a really cool kids play area with a spongy floor and styrofoam animals to crawl all over. I made Phillip get his picture taken with me on the shark!
The snake of the week this week was a Florida Cottonmouth! My first cottonmouth encounter. One of the guys I was working with on monday almost stepped on the poor snake. As he was stepping down the snake hissed and the man must of jumped back like 5 feet. Of course, I was with a group of herpers, so when we realized what it was we all drew closer and started taking pictures. The snake was picture perfect. He lay perfectly still with his white mouth flared open. Another gorgeous snake! Cottonmouths have a reputation for being aggressive, but its not true. Talking with the folks I was with, they said that the snakes have that reputation because they hold there ground. Its not like they will actively chase you, like some claim, but they will not run away from you. Really amazing creatures.
In other news, I'm starting to take belly dancing lessons again. One of my co-workers got excited about the idea and looked up places around here that we could get lessons. I'm totally pumped about it too (and it'll be nice to have some social time with Melissa)! I also heard from Oregon state university this week. They want to call me to talk about meeting in person. I was pretty excited about that also! That's a good sign they are really interested in me, I think. Of course I got the e-mail 4 days ago, immediately replied and have heard nothing back.... Bah.
