Its getting to be routine

I had two highlights in my week and they happened on the same day. First I got to truamatize birds (ie translocate them to a new part of the base) Basically you wait until the woodpeckers (RCWs) fly into their cavities for the night to sleep, set up a net outside their hole and then terrify them by pounding on their tree with a metal pole. The horrified bird zips out of its snug little home and into the net. Of course that's not the end of the ordeal. The bird is then driven about 45 minutes away, stuck in a new cavity that we mesh over and is abandoned for the night. In the morning we come back pull off the meshing and let the bird go.

Personally I wouldn't enjoy that experience so much and I did feel a touch bad for the bird, BUT it was awesome to get a close up look at an RCW. I help the bird in my lap as we were climbing and it screamed for awhile and then calmed down. Of course it then began pounding on my leg like it thought I was a tree, but it was kind of entertaining. Birds have a pretty keen sense of rhythm. There was very little variation in the pounding speed. I wanted to get pictures but it was too dark. Hopefully next time I can manage it!

The second awesome occurance was in Nightwing #117 (I think. Dudes, Nightwing and Oracle get engaged! What is it about this year and engagements?! Anywho, it was awesome and I was running in circles. Nightwing (for those of you who haven't heard me babble about him already) was the first Robin (Dick Grayson). He eventually decided to strike out on his own and became Nightwing. Oracle used to be batgirl before Joker shot and crippled her. Now she's a data miner and kinda the information getter for the batworld. She's awesome! Anywho, this was years in the making and I was pleased!

I've also started climbing and identifiying individual birds on my own! As of the end of this week I was no longer an apprentice! Which is awesome, but its kinda less fun to be out there with no one to talk to. Oh well...

Apartment situation is still up in the air. The landlady is in the process of evicting the current tenant in the place I'm interested in and its getting more complicated than she had hoped. The police are gonna come and physically remove the guy on monday or some such insanity. Hopefully, whatever happens happens quickly, 'cause I wanna get settled somewhere. Okay, that sounds mean to the guy getting evicted, but he's not getting evicted because of me and I do'nt really know his situation so... bah.
